We heard your questions. This page answers the most common ones about niyyah, livestock, meat distribution, and how to join the Qurban Experience Austin 2026. Updated with confirmed farm and pricing decisions.
1Does donating here fulfill my Qurban obligation?
Confirmed▼
The committee adopted two clear participation options:
Option A — Fulfills your Qurban obligation: Your niyyah (intention) is recorded and you take on the responsibility of one Udhiyah. Pricing: $300–$450 for one full lamb/goat, or $300 for one cow share (1/7 of a cow).
Option B — Experience / voluntary contribution: Any amount. Supports the community Experience but does not fulfill the individual Qurban obligation. You retain the duty to sacrifice elsewhere (e.g., overseas).
Please be explicit at the time of donation about which option you are choosing — the treasurer will record your name and intention for Option A donors.
2Can I do Qurban in Indonesia AND contribute here?
Confirmed▼
Absolutely. Many of our community members do both. Your separate Qurban in Indonesia is a completely independent act of worship — it does not conflict with contributing here.
Contributing to the Qurban Experience Austin means you are also investing in building a community tradition here in Texas — witnessing the slaughter, connecting with the ibadah firsthand, and sharing the meat with our local community.
The two intentions can coexist. In fact, some scholars encourage supporting local Qurban efforts even when also fulfilling the obligation elsewhere.
3What exactly is "The Qurban Experience" — is this a real Qurban?
Confirmed▼
This is a full, valid Qurban. We are purchasing and slaughtering halal livestock at Br. Ishtihaq's Ranch in Manor (about 20 minutes east of Austin) on Eid Al-Adha — Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The "Experience" part refers to how we do it: the community witnesses it together. Instead of sending money abroad and never seeing the animal, donors and their families come to the farm, make niyyah together, and participate in the ritual — the way it has been done for generations.
This is Event 2 of 3 in the full journey:
4What animal(s) are being slaughtered? How many shares per animal?
Confirmed▼
The committee has set a clear cap, given logistics constraints (storage, transport, manpower):
Maximum: 1 cow + 3 lambs/goats.
Cow share is confirmed at $300 per share.
5What happens to all the meat?
Confirmed▼
Distribution follows the classical Shariah recommendation, ensuring the benefit reaches the household, the community, and those in need.
📦 Important: All attendees must bring their own coolers and 1-gallon Ziploc bags (~5 lbs per bag) for transporting their share. See Q9 for details.
6Will I actually receive my share of the meat?
Confirmed▼
Donors who are present at the Farm Day on May 27 will receive their meat share directly at the farm. Br. Ishtihaq's ranch will package the meat after slaughter and processing.
Bring with you:
• A cooler (essential — meat is fresh, not frozen)
• 1-gallon Ziploc bags (NOT grocery bags), ~5 lbs each
• Family welcome — children especially encouraged to witness
If portion sizes from the ranch are too large, halal markets in Austin are available as a backup for further cutting/portioning.
We strongly encourage all donors to attend in person — this is the heart of the Experience. Logistics for absent donors are still being finalized.
7I haven't paid yet — am I still in? What's the deadline?
Confirmed▼
Yes — we want as many community members as possible to participate. The donation drive officially launches at the May 9 Pengajian with a WhatsApp blast to follow.
Donation deadline: at least 1–2 days before May 27 (i.e., approximately May 25) so the committee can finalize the animal selection and inform the ranch.
To register your niyyah and secure your share, complete your donation via Zelle (imatx.sec@gmail.com) or PayPal with the memo "Qurban 2026". Be sure to specify Option A or Option B.
💰 As of the latest update: ~$700 already collected (sufficient for 2 lambs). Help us reach the cap of 1 cow + 3 lambs.
8Where is the farm? How do I get there?
Confirmed▼
The Qurban will take place at Br. Ishtihaq's Ranch, a family-managed halal ranch located in Manor, TX — about a 20-minute drive east of Austin.
The committee selected this ranch as the preferred farm at the committee meeting because of its proximity, family management, and willingness to accommodate our requirements (animal tagging, packaging, and Eid-day slaughter).
Detailed directions, exact address, and carpool information will be shared via WhatsApp closer to the date. Plan to leave Austin right after Eid prayer on May 27 to arrive on time.
📞 Farm contact: +1 (512) 554-5757 (do not call directly — coordinate via Br. Abdullah or Sr. Gina)
9What should I bring to the Farm Day on May 27?
Confirmed▼
Two essentials are required for everyone taking home a meat portion:
1. A cooler — meat will be fresh, not frozen. A standard hard-shell cooler with ice packs works best.
2. 1-gallon Ziploc bags — fill each with approximately 5 lbs of meat. Smaller bags or grocery bags will not be accepted. Recommended bags on Amazon.
Also encouraged:
• Family members — children especially welcome to witness
• Closed-toe shoes (working farm)
• Hat / sunscreen (outdoor setting)
• Water bottle
10What's the difference between Option A and Option B again?
Confirmed▼
Quick recap — the committee adopted these two options to make the niyyah requirement explicit and avoid confusion:
$300–$450 (lamb/goat) or $300 (cow share). Niyyah recorded. Fulfills your individual Udhiyah this year.
Any amount. Supports the community Experience. Does not fulfill your individual obligation — you retain the duty to sacrifice elsewhere (e.g., overseas).
Both options are honored and welcomed. The key is being clear about your intention at the time of donation so the treasurer records correctly.
